front subframe bushings question

My indy says that I need front guide rod joints (track rod ball joint). How do I know if the big round subframe bushings need to be replaced? The rubber looks ok but since I will have to take the bracket off to replace the joint with the mounting kit, should I replace the rubber subframe bushing also? I would rather not beacause they are about $20 each and looks like a pain to do (from looking at some of the searches and pics).

My indy was going to check all the suspension stuff but as usual my car sat there for two days and I finally came and got it because i need my ride! He was supposed to do the shut off valve also. Looks like I may attempt that also. This is why I try to do my own work beacause It takes them so damn long.

James,

I'm guessing- you are talking about the SD?????????????

Yes, guide rod mounts are common on W126 and much easier to install than on a W123. If you are going to do more than guide mounts and rear subframe mounts, I suggest careful inspection. Parts are cheap, but it takes a fair amount of labor to install.

If you re place all the rubber, upper and lower ball joints it will ride like a new car....
