Start by checking for oil leaks at the headgasket and if it has been replaced or not.

Do a search their are a few good W140 threads around.

As with any W140 if the evap hasn't been done already budget $3k for it.

are all 140's years prone to the evaporator issue and head gasket failure, or just the first year, any more reliable (year wise) than others.
S420, S500 the same?
Thanks

Every W140 from the 92's to the last 99 are going to need an evap at some point.

The headgasket issue is just an M104 thing, it isn't to big of a deal. If it bothers you get an S420 or S500.

These are not cheap cars to keep going though, figure at least $2k a year.

As with any MB, but extremly important on a W140 is a complete maintaince history. W140's do not take neglect well.

The best years are the 97-99, stay away from the V12 unless you have deep pockets.
