New Owner happily, but....

...needs work. I am totally new here. Just had an offer to get rid of my toyo truck and get a MB (1981 300TD Wagon)- so I did. I love it, but I need to diagnose some problems to get it really going. When it is in the right gear at the right time - its a champ. The odom brok at 220889. I need to fis that to keep track of my biz miles.

Now...I have looked extensively on this site unsuccessfully. Can someone point me to a previous discussion (I know there is one somewhere on here - its a "common problem") about the crazy vaccuum shifting probs on these models. Mine has it...its drivable, but quirky and sometimes is NOT in the right gear. I have been driving manual for a long time, and now I know why. It is nice to give my left leg a rest, though. Anyways, any help on finding the discussion would help. I have found several documents on line about it, but here I am looking for personal experiences and repair cost range. I will be working with a local MB mechanic - but I want to know as much as possible. Thanks.
