Trunk/boot will not open 1997 SL320

I have a 1997 SL320-the lock mechanisim is turning in the trunk

without opening and the key and internal switch do not work- the lock mechanisim is obviously damaged and needs repaired or replaced, but HOW DO YOU OPEN THE TRUNK TO REPLACE THE LOCK FROM OUTSIDE OR THE INSIDE OF THE CAR?
PLEASE HELP!
