At the dealership....
$2000 + the value of you car + the value of a new car - the value of the paper mat they put down to protect your pedal carpet! I am not sure of the exact price... but it will be expensive... and since your car is older... they will probally try to sabatoge it in an atempt to make you buy a new one!

WOW! You are talented! I wish I could do stuff that complicated on my car!
But.... you can go to a trustworthy "Indy"(Independent) mechanics shop that specializes in Mercedes cars... First... go to the shop, and just talk to the managers and mechanics if they are available... talk to some regular customers and ask what kind of car they have and how long they have been taking the car to that shop... look at their cars and judge how the engine condition is if they are a regular customer, if you can.... ask them if you can take a look at their mercedes specific tool set.... see if the shop is nice and clean (for a mech shop)..... try to take note if their waiting room has a tv and if it has cable or basic antenna channels... (you will not believe how much the waiting room reflects on the quality of the shop!) only if you are happy with the shop should you take your car there... the valve job is a pretty important thing! No mistakes needed!

I wasn't aware that a modern gas motor needs valve adjustments....just the older diesels.

The Cosworth head on the 2.3-16 is set up pretty much like an early Rabbit head. I'm not sure if the shims go between the lobes and tappets ala VW or between the tappet and the valve ala Toyota.
MB applied hydraulic lash adjusting tappets to the OM603. I don't know if later MB 4 valve engines use a similar tappet arrangement or the more common rocker arm arrangement. I'm pretty sure they're all hydraulic now. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

The valve lash should be checked EVERY 15K miles & is part of every 15K service! Checking the valves takes about 45min & you will need a new valve cover gasket kit.
Adjusting the valves is another story! The camshafts MUST be removed for lifter adjustment. Time for that is 1 hour @ side! Plus you have the cost of the replacement shims. VERY few shops stock them SO be prepared to wait.
