hmm, I guess there are no VW forums that are as good as this one. I don't know if you'll get responses here, considering that this is supposed to be benz's only. Maybe post in the mercedesshop general discussion forum instead.

VW problems
I'd suggest you post on www.vwvortex.com. They have a section specific to cabriolets. You'll probably have better luck there.
I have a '92 cabriolet. Your problem is likely a vacuum leak. There aren't a ton of vacuum lines, but you should check all the connections carefully to see if any are cracked. The lines themselves are plastic and shouldn't be a problem unless they've been crushed shomehow. The extra fuel you get on a cold start is likely compensating for the vacuum leak and covering the problem until the car warms up and the fuel leans out. Good luck. |

You guy's gotta be nicer!?
Come on now, you gotta be nicer! I sneak over to the VW site http://www.pelicanparts.com/ to read the tech bulletins on the bosch stuff. They do use many of the same components.
Next time you tell them where to go, just tell them where to go, like the previous threat! I mean thread! If your having a Bosch problems and can't find it here you could slum a bit! Even I have a friend who has one of the beer colored VW's he calls a, what was that? Oh yea! "A champagne Colored Porche" What ever, I still don't let him park it in my driveway! There is a street you know! I've told him many times it belongs in the gutter! Stubborn! |

On most VW of that era, I've got a 82 Rabbit conv, there is a cold start device that allows additional air to enter the intake so that the fuel system goes rich. Sounds as if the device, mine is called a "Cold Start Valve" (clever those German to English trnaslators). Yours could be stuck open and not closing the additional air inlet when the engine reaches operating temperature. Alternately, they could have used a device that adds fuel when the engine is cold and it could be stuck open. My guess is on the air valve.
Also, on the 82 they had a fifth injector in the intake to really add fuel when the engine is cold, don't use that much in NC! That could be stucdk open or leaking. That is easy to check. The cold start air valve on mine is a bypass around the throttle body, it is operated by engine heat and an internal heater. I don't know how the 89 works, but all fuel inj. Bosh stuff has to have a device like this. Happy hunting.
