You won't have to go all the way to the evaporator, but you will have to remove the top of the dash to replace all vac pods except the defroster pod which is just to the left of the glove box. If you remove the dash to replace this pod, you would be oh so wise to replace them all while it's apart. You should also replace the rubber elbows on the pods that have them.
