auto transmission
Let the heated discussion begin. I have just purchased a '01 C320 with 50K.
runs great but I have no idea if it has been serviced correctly for the last 4 years or not. I have reviewed all the articles on trans fluid service and see that not everyone agrees. I finished doing the oil today and now am woking towards the transmission. should I do the service (I already have the filter)? what fluid to use; MB, Mobile 1, Dextron III, ....? what about the other fluids; coolant, power stearing, brake, .....? so many questions and so many miles ahead. |
Do a search on 722.6 tranny fluid.
ONLY approved fluid is the MB fluid that runs aroun $13/quart. You will need 8-9 quarts probably. You must buy a dipstick and use SDS or a equivalent scanner to read the trans fluid temperature. Fluid level is dependant on temp and the trans fluid temp must be at an EXACT level according to an exact temp. |
That is one thing I don't do myself. I let the dealership do it since you have to get it to the right temp and all. If you overfill or underfill it will not shift right and it is a really messy job. I always just pay the $150 and do it. I think they power flush them now and change all the fluid by flushing it out. Good luck!
