Let the heated discussion begin. I have just purchased a '01 C320 with 50K.
runs great but I have no idea if it has been serviced correctly for the last 4 years or not. I have reviewed all the articles on trans fluid service and see that not everyone agrees. I finished doing the oil today and now am woking towards the transmission. should I do the service (I already have the filter)? what fluid to use; MB, Mobile 1, Dextron III, ....? what about the other fluids; coolant, power stearing, brake, .....? so many questions and so many miles ahead.

Do a search on 722.6 tranny fluid.

ONLY approved fluid is the MB fluid that runs aroun $13/quart. You will need 8-9 quarts probably. You must buy a dipstick and use SDS or a equivalent scanner to read the trans fluid temperature.

Fluid level is dependant on temp and the trans fluid temp must be at an EXACT level according to an exact temp.

That is one thing I don't do myself. I let the dealership do it since you have to get it to the right temp and all. If you overfill or underfill it will not shift right and it is a really messy job. I always just pay the $150 and do it. I think they power flush them now and change all the fluid by flushing it out. Good luck!
