Do a search on Water Pump 124. Many results. One thread states that this is a "Bear" of a job, book time 6 hours.

I have not done this job, but know that there is a Snap-on extension with
flexible 13mm? socket, that speeds the job.

There will be disagreement on this, but when I had a new pump put on my '92
124, I went with the Factory pump. Did this because of the 1 year warranty issue and the possibility that aftermarket design might not equal factory performance.

I had a pump done on my previous, '90 124. On this car, they had to also
do the Belt Tensioner.

No disagreement here. The factory water pump is the ONLY way to go.

The engines would be the same....just the chassis number is different.

For example: Both the 126(S-Class) and the 123 (the equivalent of today's E-Class) chassis used a 617.95x motor. Open the hood on either one of the same year, and with some very minor differences, it is the same thing.

The Snap On extension that eases this job greatly is FLXM13. It costs $50, but will save lots of trouble. The shaft is only 1/4" so it will feel like you are going to twist the shaft in two, but just keep torquing on it.

Since the job is so labor intensive, you DEFINITELY want to use a quality pump. Also buy the short piece of hose at the top of the pump and the thermostat, then cut away the old one to ease getting the pump out.

Good luck,
