Can you rebuilt Auxillary Water Pump.

Hi folks:
I finally fixed my Defrost vent problem by replacing the change over valve. Thanks to tips from this forum. I have 300D Turbo 1985-123

Now I have another problem.
I had a problem that in winter it took too long to get heat in cabin.
Yes the monovalve was busted so I fixed it. A little improvement but still took a long time to get heat.
So I did some search on the forum, found it coud be the Auxillary water pump. Power supply to the auxillary water pump is fine. So its the motor on the pump that is toasted, because with external power supply the pump would not run. Now my Question is 100+ bucks for the pump is a bit too much, so I was thinking can the motor on the pump be rebuilt? That would be a cheaper affair. If that can be done then I can put an inline fuse to protect the whole unit and others from overload. Any suggestions as to where can such motors be rebuilt. I know they do wonderful job in India. But I am in USA.( My nephew is going on vacation to India may be I can send it with him as last resort) . But is it worth rebuilding it and If you put inline fuse where do you put it. I mean on which of the 2 wires.
Thanks
MVK

Wire from pushbutton control assembly to aux. H2O pump is bk/rd ( I think) and that's where i"d put an inline fuse (say 2 amp.?). The other wire should be br. and would be ground.

A member named '79 Super Turtle wrote up how she rebuilt the auxiliary water pump about a year ago or so. Search on that username or auxiliary waterpump or auxiliary coolant pump and I'm sure you will find it.

I like the challenge of rebuilding also but these aux pumps were put on many 126 chassis cars and are available used for a fraction of the price of new. Time is money and rebuilding takes time. Install a used one and take your kids out to the ball game.

Hi Billrok:
Where would I get a used one from and about how much any Ideas? Yes I rather spend time with kids and wife but at $138 for a new one, I thought of DIY.
But by all means I willbuy a used one if someone can tell me where to buy it from.
Thanks

Manual On-Off for Aux Pump

My pump is fine, but it doesn't go on. PSFRED, wonder where he has been by the way, said that the push button control unit is probably fried due to over amp draw from the pump.

I wonder if there is some way to spice in a manual switch and wire in the aux pump directly so I can just flick it on........

"trees",

The aux pump is to pump more hot water thru the heater core to get more cabin heat and won't help much to cool the engine.

The thermostat should have been changed first. Always replace the lowest priced parts first.

I wouldn't have much faith in your mechanic. Hundreds of dollars spent and no improvement? The whole problem might be fixed by a $10 part.
