E320 Storage Compartment Removal
Can anyone tell me how to remove the storage compartment located below the radio in a 1998 E320?

The correct way is to remove the ashtray and reach up behind the compartment to release a latch that is on the top in the center (you pull it down slightly) then the compartment slides out the front. Removing the ash tray involves first removing the wood trim around the shfter and then taking the screws out which hold the ashtray in position. You remove the wood trim by first removing the plastic trim around the shifter control. The whole job would take 5 minutes if you had done it once already. Don't rush and crack the wood trim around the shifter. Look for other descriptions here too if any of this is unclear.

Thanks Guys. Great vid Jeff. I never got the storage compartment out. Couldn't "feel" the clip(s) but having the ashtray out was really what I needed to install wired FM modulator. Mark in Dayton
