w124 rear window regulator removal questions

Ok, I am perplexed. My driver side rear window is stuck in the up position, completely closed. However, I can't get the regulator/motor out to repair or replace. There is power to the motor, switches working etc. I suppose that the plastic guide that slides on the regulator shaft is gone wonky, and won't let the window down. All the posts I've read say, remove the regulator with the window down! No can do.

Can anyone tell me how to get the window down, or should I cut the cables and shaft to remove this thing, or is there another solution?

I just removed my 190E's front window regulator and it was stuck in the up position. It just required disconnecting the whole mechanism from the glass, and everywhere it attached to the door, and then quite a lot of force and leverage to get it off.. seemingly it doesn't slide onto the door bolt/hole mountings very smoothly/easily.

I couldn't even bring myself to apply that much force, so someone else did it for me..

I am not sure about the front window mechanism on the 190, but on the 300, it's quite different for the rear windows. I will have to keep at it since I think the plastic slide thingy is the culprit. Those who've had this apart will know well what I'm talking about.
