Help, seized break rotor? 1982 380SEL

Help, My rear break over heated and I need to put a new rotor on a 1982 380SEL.....The rotor seems to be stuck or seized onto the axle drive.....Is there any kind of trick I can use to get it off? Is there a tool out there that will pry the rotor off the car? Should I bang it with a sledge hammer? Will doing that make it worse? I tried to use a tyrod separator to get it off......It seemed to rotate some, but now I am in a worse position cause the lug nut holes arent lined up....I cannot even put the wheel back on now.....

Need help.

Thanks,

Bart

Not sure on your car, but the ones I've worked on have a socket head flush screw that you must loosen first. Then beat the crap out of the old one to get it off. Not sure if it helps because I've not had to do it twice, but I've assmebled them all, after cleaning the falnge off real well, only after I applied anti-sieze to the mating surfaces.
I do it on my wheels as well. Started that after I had to beat one of them off. I cahnge them every winter/summer and it certainly helps.

No, I did not adjust the parking break shoes.....Where/how do you do that? Its the back right break that is stuck......

By the way, I was just looking at the rotors a few minutes ago.....Its wierd cause the rotor moves around a bit, but seems almost like, locked in on one side......If I try to pry it off it wants to give way, but the one point is stuck. Its wierd, If I didnt know any better, Id think it was stuck on by springs.....Wants to pry off, but springs back if I let go.

Im almost at the point where I might have to get it into a shop to fix it....I was really hoping to get some answers here as I expect its gonna cost me a fortune.......and as I said, I cant get the wheel back on now so Id have it towed also....What a hassle this has become.

I'd say the parking brake wore a groove and the parking brake shoe is stuck inside. You need to back off the parking brake.

This is done through a lugbolt hole. Look for the starwheel and turn the wheel toward the outside of the rotor as far as it will go.

NO!!!! Not on my watch!!!
From the additional info you provided, definitely sounds like the rotor is being held on by the parking brake shoes. But, like waybomb said, you will have to get the rotor bolt holes lined back up with the hub holes. The parking brake has a "star" adjuster similar to regular drum brakes. (The center of the rotor is the drum.) So you have to screw the adjuster down to allow the brake shoes to move closer together. You can do that with a straight screwdriver, through a lug bolt hole. Once you do that, the rotor should come right off. It is not siezed, or it would not rotate.
You might also try loosening the adjuster for the parking brake cable, which is under the car. That might take enough tension off the parking brake to allow removal of the rotor. Oh, make sure the parking brake is not on.
On the right rear brake, the adjuster wheel should be at approx the one o'clock position as you look at the axle.

Problem Solved!!!

Holy cow! You guys solved my problem......Actually I am a little embarrassed to tell you the truth.....I just found out I had the parking break on.....I didnt know the parking break was set up almost like a drum break under the rotor.....I even have a mercedes CD fix manual, and I couldnt find any information about this problem I was having....Once the parking break was released, I could have taken the rotor off with two finger tips. Whole time I was thinking the rotor was seized......Wish I would have check here earlier....My car has been up, and wheel off for almost a month now.....How stupid is that? Thanks!!!

Congrats on figuring it out!
I hate that when I work on something, it isn't going right, and then I figure out I was my worst enemy. Takes a lot to admit it too!
Hat's off to you.
