I've been to the dealer couple
of times and couldn't get any help on it! It seems that the clunking noise happens mostly after I drive the car for a while or backup from the garage! It happens when the RPM suddenly goes down when braking or turning! It doesn't happen all the time though! The car has around 10k on it , but I've had this problem since almost new! Dealers have checked suspension and brake system and all they did was lubrication and tightening! The clunking is more like ball-joint problem which happens on old cars. It doesn't continuously clunk, but will only do it once. Some times I only can duplicate it in a undergroung garage! Any help appreciates!

Dave

On the 1996 & 97 cars we had this problem. Sounds like your car may also have that problem! The lower control arm bushing is allowing movement of the arm, once in either direction. In the RED fische topic 33-96101 may contain the info needed to rid the car of this noise!

Thanks for you reply! What do you mean by" In the RED fische topic 33-96101 "? Should I just go talk to the dealer and they will know?

The dealer should know! This(red fische) is one way MB helps dealer techs with HIGH failure rate problems.

One dealer told me they couldn't find that number and the other one told me they need two days to check it out! What exactly is the difficulty for fixing this problem? To me, it is either the suspension or kompresssor. Or they just don't wanna look deep into the problem?

Thanks!
