Hi guys, I did a search but I need a bit more detail and I hope someone can help me.
I just put a new steering box in my w201, this one is from a newer model so the ratios are different the what I had before. One problem is that I didn't exactly align the steering wheel since I was doing the job alone and it kept on rotating away from the right position, and I just wanted to get out of there, so as soon as I got the steering coupling attached, I got out of there. I took the steering wheel off itself and aligned it, I thought this would create problems with the turn signals, but they work just the way they did before except with the different steering ratios, the signals don't go off automatically on wider turns, so I'm wondering if the plastic part responsible for disengaging the turn signals can be updated as well, the part is strangely integrated into the column and I was afraid it would crack if I touch it, no instructions on how to get it out.
Furhtermore, it turns out the steering coupling inside the cabin is badly worn, cracked and loose, I looked at it, and I see there is a screw to loosen it on one side, but not on the other, how exactly does one replace this part? I will order it in the next few days, it's a bit pricey for a piece of rubber like that.
Other then that the new steering box is great, much tighter, and no slack what so ever behind the couping that's in the cabin, but getting it installed was very difficult thanx to the coupling outside of the cabin.
I was also wondering if I missed any alignment marks, I found one on the output shaft of the steering box, but something tells me there should be more.
Thank you
xp
