CLK door lock trouble.

When I lock the doors with the metal slide out key by placing it in the drivers door (can only be done on the drivers door) only the drivers door locks and unlocks. It moves manualy and not power assisted.
Central locking by using the dash switch works fine.
Using the remote function on the key works fine too.
This is a recent development. When the car was new, both doors would lock and unlock manually with only the slighest turning of the key.

Any ideas where to start looking ?

Try to lock the doors with the trunk lock. If it works then you have a problem with the driver's door lock. Since the infrared sensors works than you probably have a problem with the lock itself and not the wire harness. You might have to replace it.

Hope this helps.

The doors lock and unlock ok using the manual trunk lock.
I really would rather NOT have the dealer touch my car again, any ideas ?

I suggest going back to the dealer, since it is still under warranty. They will probably have to replace the lock.
