Which bulbs?

ok i have a 1987 mercedes benz 300e. i would like to know what type of bulb fits and works well for ... the dome light, license plate light, trunk light center console light ( if its a bulb ) and are there only one type of lights? because i want to brighten up the place.. very hard to find things in my trunk due to poor/no lighting

anybody else also know how to get to the trunk light bulb?

Sometimes just changing old bubs for new oem bulbs brightens up the place. If you want a brighter solution, you can try LED bulbs. I tied red LED for the instrument cluster and the results were horrible! You can see the ones I tried here on page 6 (194RD):

I removed them after 3 days.
I'm interested in a good solution too. Hopefully, someone else in here may be able to share a postitive experience.

Check the owner's manual, or, if you don't have it, you can take out the bulbs and look at the metal part. They should be stamped with the bulb designation and the correct voltage. I think they might all be the same kind of bulb, but I'm not positive about it. Mine are pretty bright though, the only lamps I wish were brighter on mine are the instrument cluster and the headlights.

Try going to an chain automotive parts store with the bulbs you need to replace and in the lighting section, look for OEM bulbs. You want ones that are silver metal only.

sylvannia is a good trusted brand right? and for the person that wanted brighter headlights, try ordering some sylvannia silverstars off ebay. they are great. i saw another 300e with them and i was impressed at the difference for only 30 bucks, oh does anybody know how to get the trunk bulb out? how much are the owners manuals?

Be very careful with the Superstar bulbs. I used them for about a year. One night my dim lights on the passenger side went out. I tried to change out the bulb and couldn't. The bulb plug had fused to the housing - melted right to it. I immediately took the other one out - almost would not come out. Went to the auto parts place and got replacement bulbs and sockets and changed them out. I have since heard of nightmares of wires burning and causing fires, etc. Be sure the bulb is the correct wattage for your vehicle. My old 190E could take the Superstars but my current 420SEL could not.

scary .. and yea, of course you gotta check for wattage when it comes to any type of bulb as it will melt the wire/socket
