87 190e 2.3-16V engine temp questions

Just curious. When I'm driving along the highway at steady speeds, the engine temp stays a little over 80 degrees. When I am stopped for an extended time, say at a stoplight or Tim Hortons drivethru, the temp goes up to about 105 or 110. But then when I start driving it goes back to a little over 80. Yes the fan kicks in and does drop it somewhat. The rad is about 1 year old. Coolant is recently changed. Any ideas if this is normal?

Those temps are normal with the A/C off! If you have a 3 pole GREEN temp switch for the fans you can lower those readings by using a RED 3 pole switch.

As "Doc" says, those are normal. The engine fan clutch activates at 100 degree C, the electric aux fans come on at 105 degree C.
