Burning Smell from engine, 1979 SL

Just got it back from my mechanic who had worked on the Steering Gear Box and a new Exhaust system. After driving the car now, there's a noticeable burning smell....rubber, plastic, sulfur, etc. What could it be? Safe to keep driving until I can get into the mechanic? Thanks.

Well if you just had major work done it could be spilled oil, new parts and gaskets burning in. Just keep an eye on it and look under the hood, check out the hot places, the exhaust manifold, the top of the engine and etc.. make sure nothing is sittin on them that should not be, for example, a rubber hose can not be on an exhaust manifold, it will melt. If it continues beyond a few days of driving have it looked at. Good luck!

Not to worry, you said they installed a new exhaust system, what you are are smelling is the burnoff of what is all over the system, grease from the mechanic handling the parts, factory residue from manufacturing etc, you will need to drive it a while to burn everything off, take a nice sunday drive and it should all burn off
