transmission fluid leak
Hello-
I recently replaced the auto. trans fluid and filter on my 1984 300 SD. It helped the downshifting problem I had been having and my car no longer clunks down into 1st speed. I neglected to drain the torque converter fluid (I found out about it too late - whoops :( ). Anyway, I did not retighten the bolts to the proper torque (my new torque wrench wasn't working for me), but initially only until moderate tightness. When some leaks began from the bolts I tightened them more (but, again, I do not know to what torque), and it seemed to improve. Now, there is a much bigger leak that seems to come from along the new gasket. The fluid was initially overfull, but I had lowered it until I think it is just at the 'full' line. Any ideas as to why this leak suddenly appeared a few weeks after I had done the fluid change and any suggestions as to how to resolve it? Thanks. Dan |
Remove the pan and check the gasket for any cracks, if it is install a new one and torque the bolts to 71in. lbs. Make sure to install/ center the gasket on the pan rail.

OK, Thanks!
