Rev counter not working

I have a merc 560 sel 89, I think!
The rev counter doesnt work or the computer thing in the right hand section of the clocks, I have checked all the wires at the back of the clocks and all is ok.
I am not really bothered about the computer thingy working, But It would be nice to see the revs.
All the other gauges work ok so I am stumpted!!!
Any ideas?
