W124 Evap (300e) replacement photos

I have searched the threads, found some info, but have a few more questions.

Has anyone documented the removal and replacement of the box containing the evap core? I found the great photos of removing the dash and replacing the vacuum pods, but I can't find pics of the evap replacement, once you get to that point. Looks like I am in for that treat, and will be photographing it if someone else hasn't.

What is the proper name for the vacuum pods? They seem to be working, but they are 15 years old and I don't want to do this again. I don't see anything on Fastlane that looks like a vacuum pod.

Is there anything else I should replace while I am in there?

I know this has been beaten up pretty well before, just trying to tie up some loose ends. Cheers!

Kieth Greenfield ( kg.g@tesco.net ) is the guy who posted the pictures of the dash removal, and has some pods that he doesn't need.

Might want to contact him.

I have done most of my auto work over the years with very little or no documentation, but for this job, I would STRONGLY recommend getting the factory documentation.

Good luck,

Factory documentation

I have the 2 CD set, I have printed out 3 sections. I also found them on the web.

Is there any way to see the site where the 124 evaps leak at without full removal? How do you diagnose a leaking evap, other than it's not leaking anywhere else? I have a working sniffer, can't find any other detectable leaks.

Besides the vacuum pods, anything else in there that should be preemptively replaced while I have the dash off?

Just like the the copy of 83-554.pdf on a CD I purchased off ebay, this is missing page 4. It shows page 5 twice.

Does anyone know if the missing page exists or where it can be found. As of tonight, I'm there an I'm getting scared

Do a search for "vacuum element" and then display all.

unless you have a dust filter you might find lots of crud on the fins of the heat exchanger and evaporator. a good vacuuming of these will improve airflow and HVAC efficiency.

When I replaced a 124 evap a few years back, there were two locations which appeared to be leaking. The first was where the large copper inlet/outlet tubing was soldered to the aluminum core. The other was the myriad copper elbows at each end of the small aluminum tubes which comprise the evap core. They too were soldered and showed evidence of leakage.

Don't know that you could detect either of these areas without going all the way into the evap removal anyways.
