need help fast

i have a 89 300 i am trying to purchase i fan bearing bracket. but who wants to pay $250? but anyway i saw some on ebay for a fraction of that price. but i don't want to get the wrong one. when i called the local dealer they were asking me for the vin number and all this crap. i did'n think you needed all of that just for fan bearing bracket. just the year make and model. so my problem is i want to get the one on ebay but how the hell do i know i have the right one (wdbea30d8ka930697) that is my vin. give me a part number or something

Two things you should always have ready when going to any dealer are the Vin # and production date.

With Carson356's part# this may be moot... but...

You can get a fan bearing bracket on this site: http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=1FX0MB1RS1IO0LFXSQ&year=1989&make=MB&model=300-E-002&category=G&part=Fan+Clutch+Bearing+Brkt
For about half that price... but you will need your engine #... If you call your dealer with your vin# they can give you your engine #.

I replaced mine recently and yes there are differences. It seems the engines were built before the cars so some earlier cars may have a later engine # in the series after the design was altered. If you buy a used part you need to get the engine # of the car it came from... or get the vin # and call the dealer again to get it's engine #.

Good luck.

I got one on eBay for $85. There really seems to be only two types: one for the M103 and one for the M104. Either that, or I totally lucked out and randomly got the right one. The picture on eBay looked like mine, so I went for it. It was a Lemforder brand, an MB OEM.

Pulling the radiator takes maybe ten minutes and saves an hour plus skinned knuckles on radiator fins.

HTH,

HTH,
Here are pictures of the two types that I know of...

The first one is 90' 300E and the second one from an 88 is currently living on my car.
