'81 W126 280SE euro 4sp manual trans sticky
My W126, 81 280se Euro, 4 speed manual trans, has a
problem shifting. The problem started fairly abruptly a few weeks ago. It will shift thru all 4 gears with near normal shift lever effort at low RPM, around 2000 rpm. At higher engine speed like 4500 rpm significant shift lever effort is required. The extra lever effort feels the same, in 2nd 3rd and 4th gear which tells me it is not the tranny. I believe the problem to be the clutch, it chatters significantly starting out in 1st gear, and seems to release rather near the floor. I have had the Master and slave cylinders replaced. that didn't help. Any thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated... The car runs greeeaat and is in really beautiful condition it is my baby...
