Help! Is 260 amps of starter current too much. W140 with 119 engine.
My 1995 S420 is going in and out of ASR / limp home mode. It goes into this mode only when starting the car! This makes me think that battary volatge is too low upon starting, and in fact it measures 10.5 volts while cranking and draws 260 amps. The battery test out ok with a pro tester. The alternator produces 14.4 volts.
1) Is 260 amps too much current. The battary guy says 160 amps is normal for U.S. V8s. 2) My hydrometer shows a low 1150 cell, others are 1200. Is this ok. Car has 105K miles. Thanks, Norm Last edited by normwm; 05-13-2005 at 03:00 PM. Reason: Misspelling |
