m104 coil pack removal
Hi,
I have a 1993 300e with m104 engine. Today, I was trying to replace the spark plugs. I was able to replace 1,3,and 5. 2,4,6 are under the coil packs. I have been unable to unscrew the single screw that is holding down the coil packs. I tried a 1/8" flat driver and it was still too big. Is there a special size screwdriver that I need to get or where I can it from? As a last resort, should I drill out the flat head screw since it seems to be really screwed on tight? Thanks, BW |

Believe it or not..
Believe it or not but all you have to do is wiggle the coil packs and they come right out. I have the same car and mine aren't screwed in. Infact i don't know why those screws are there. Just get a firm grip of the coil pack and wiggle gently. The coils should come right out.

Do not screw around with those post .. they are the grounding post and do not have to be removed to lift the coils...
As stated , the coils lift right off of these post. If you strip them in the head , you are in trouble. |

Moneypit, thanks.
They wiggled out like you said. Have you had problems with emissions testing on your m104 engine in NJ? I have already failed twice. In another thread, a member said I should make sure my cats are sufficeintly hot prior to testing. |
