Catastrophic Tranny Leak (W124 M119)
Part number 126 277 09 03 is totally loose; It can be rotated 360 degrees with little effort. It can be pushed in and out 1/4 -1/2 inch. Upon pushing it in, there is a distinct *squishing* noise, as if its moving air and oil kind of like a hand pump. The reason I was under the car is because I have observed huge puddles of transmission oil under the car.
Also, if you sink it all the way in, it will stay down. If I then start the car for a min and then turn it off, when I go back under the car and look, the part is back to its “normal” position. Its as if it has been pressurized or something and pushed out. Look in the PICT (large,1600x1200). The red arrow is the part in question. The yellow arrow is part number 126 277 25 03. That part is tight, secure, and dry. The Green arrow points toward the front of the car. What is going on and what do I do? |

The Red arrow is the infamous B2 piston, what you observed is perfectly normal. It is a double actuating piston, it’s applied and released by oil when the engine is on. The green arrow is the B1 piston.

so then you're saying that nothing is wrong?
EDIT: I assume there should be no oil seeping out if it. correct? If I do have a leak there, how do I go about fixing it? Is this a common problem with these cars? Last edited by AtlBenz; 05-18-2005 at 03:46 PM. |

There is an o-ring around the piece you are pushing in.

There is an o- ring seal in the case it’s easy to replace. With the engine off push the cover in and remove the retaining ring, then pull the cover out. The o-ring is red in color, remove it from the case and install the new one. If you have trouble installing the new o-ring just put it in your refrigerator for a short time to shrink it.
