My friend just got back from the dealership in Santa Monica, CA where they tried to charge her $1200 to install/activate Sirius Sat. radio. Is this average? I thought it was quite expensive.

i have an installation guide for sirius that applies to the '04 S500. it can be emailed. let me know if you want it. maybe it may help someone else to install it for less.

how much of that is parts? The MB audio parts can be outragiously priced.

If they were quoting to install factory parts, then there will be a factory set time guide to go off of. Call the next closest dealer and compare prices.

I Would Buy the Kit from the Dealer and Install it myself! Its NOT hard!

I just put it in my W203 a few months back! But I just got a unit that can go in the house, car, boombox! Was $150 and it has a built in FM Transmitter to send the signal to any frequency you want! Put the antanae on the center dash speaker next to the windshield since the Coupe does not have a metal roof for it to stick to and ran the wires to the center console all hidden nicely and put the unit in the upper portion of the center console. Can not even tell it is in there! Works nicely and much cheaper than $1200 for a unit that says Benz on it.

Sorry, but I HAD to respond to this. $1200 for a Sirius install is nuts. A better idea would be to purchase an aftermarket Sirius-compatible receiver and have it installed at a reputable shop. This should NOT run $1200, and will give you the same digital reception/decoding that is supposed to be the point to satellite radio.

The W220 chassis has all the integrated crap, so it might not be easy to swap out the existing head unit (part of HVAC, etc.) for another. Much easier to simply use some sort of adapter that can work with the OE system.

The MB system price does not shock me at all. In the day of free and do-all $300 cell phones, they still want stupid amounts for their phone systems. And CD changer prices? Outrageous. When I bought my car I could pay $1000 for the OE changer or buy the EXACT same unit with an adapter (not an FM, but the OE adapter) for about $250 in the aftermarket. Many MB options/accessories are GIANT rip-offs.

Is there an Aux input on the S class radio? If so then the $150 units would work perfect. As they have an Aux output along with the ability to transmit via FM!
