Instrument Cluster "ABS" and "CHECK ENGINE" wires
I just removed my cluster because the odometer trip meter "push button" on the cluster had come loose. I fixed it and when I went to put the cluster back in, I noticed that the labels on the wires for the right side of the cluster that light up for ABS and SRS and CHECK ENGINE etc. had fallen off.
Here is what I mean: http://img175.echo.cx/img175/818/dsc031768gx.jpg http://img175.echo.cx/img175/2056/dsc031770nd.jpg As you can see label 3 and label 5 are still there. This is the right side of the instrument cluster: http://img175.echo.cx/img175/3716/copyofdsc031833hh.jpg This is a picture of the 4 wires - "5" "4" "3" "1" http://img175.echo.cx/img175/1469/dsc031679is.jpg How can I figure out which of the 2 wires goes where? One of them is for the "ABS" and the other is for "CHECK ENGINE". If I turn the car on for example, which light should go off first - check engine or ABS? Thank you |
I believe check engine and SRS come on before the others when you turn the key to first position (radio on) and the others don't come on until you turn the key to second position. I'll check when I leave work to confirm.

This thread really did not have a proper ending. Just wondering- did you ever figure out the cluster wiring?
Inquiring minds want to know.... :D |
No I didn't. I have the cluster pushed in 1/2 way until I know for sure. I guess the onlyway I will be able to find out is when some member here on teh forum removes they're cluster and tells me the color of the wires and then I will be able to match them up.

I have another problem now, and that is the temoerature guage, oil pressure guage and the fuel guage work intermittently. I wonder which one of the connection on the back of the cluster is reponsible for that? I'm also wondering if the big round plug on the left of the cluster is plugged in wrong  . |
Were the guages on the fritz before you removed the cluster?

its impossible to plug that large round connector in wrong since it has a uniquely shaped "thingy" in the middle of the connector

The wire that I have plugged in for the check engine is red/yellow and grey/green. http://img181.echo.cx/img181/4174/dsc034667ud.jpg The wire that I have plugged in for the ABS is brown/yellow and pink/red. http://img181.echo.cx/img181/2762/dsc034679wt.jpg |

Looks like the index tab is broken off the plug, so simply draw a line w/magic marker on the index flat of both pieces to the outer circumference and those will line up for you to visualy plug it in correctly...
|
Anyone have a picture with the plug that is not broken? I'm curious to see how it's supposed to look.
