Overfilled crankcase symptoms!?

HI everyone,

I recently did my first (by myself) oil change on my 380SEL. I used a topsider extractor. Well the oil change didnt go to well....eitheir I didnt get all the oil out or really overfilled it. It was above the full mark on the dipstick by about an inch. I drove with it for a day thinking it will need to go into the filter or burn off....well then the car started to have a shaky idle at and felt like it was starving for fuel. I then proceeded to suck out more oil and brought it to just below the full line as I thought the spark plugs got fouled...the car ran like silk then for the whole weekend where I did a 300km trip.

The car then sat for one day and now on my way to work it once again had the shaky/hesitant idle.

What could it be?

I would check the plugs for fouling, then check your crankcase breathing system to ensure it isn't clogged. Also keep an close eye on your front and rear main seals, those are sensitive and overfilling the crankcase can make them leak. Also depending on your type of oil separator you could have gotten oil down your intake, check out the throttle body for oil, if you have any clean it up with some emissions friendly cleaner.
Good luck

what happened is I was using the extractor for the first time and filled up the whole extractor....got distracted by a freind and thought it was actually all drained out of the engine. I then added the 2 big bottles (4.4L each) of oil on top of what was leftover.
