1987 190e 2.3 Heater Control Valve

I have a 1987 190e 2.3 litre that requires I change the heater control valve. The car has the normal symptoms of a bad valve. Heat is only blowing out of the side vents. I have been looking at the 190e CD and am perplexed. Does any one know where the heater control valve is exactly located, and the simplest way to get to it to replace it.

If it's that the heat is not blowing out the center dash vent -- that's normal, it's not supposed to. That's a fresh air only vent.

If you have heat blowing out the defrost/windshield vents, at your feet, as well as the side vents, then all is functioning properly.

On most MB's, and I don't believe the 190 is an exception, the center vents are only for fresh or air conditioned air, not heated air. It's an MB thing.
If you insist the heater valve is bad, it's near the battery behind the plastic flap, almost need to remove the battery to replace it.
