Erratic oil pressure gauge and wierd OAT temp display.

My '97 S500 has two issues-
First my oil pressure gauge reads 3bar (full scale high) almost all the time. The gauge dies when the car is shut down. Once and a great while it will read what I assume is normal, that is about 1.2 bar at idle and quickly rises to 3 bar under load. I'm asuming it's a bad sender. Correct?

Second, my outside air temp reads normal at all times except when the car has been idling for about 10 minutes without moving. The display then blinks a few times and then blanks out - no display at all. As soon as you start moving again it comes right back. Wierd. Is this normal or something more sinister?

Thanks in advance,
Paul Hansen

Hi Paul , the oil pressure gauge is probably fine. That's the MB way , if it's below 1 bar at idle (about 15 psi) then it's getting a little low . The temp display ,sounds wierd.

Yeah, 1.2bar sounds fine to me if only it would read 1.2 all the time at idle. Again, most of the time-weeks on end- as soon as the car is started it shoots straight up to the top and stays there until you shut the car off.
