What do you expect from LarryBible? He is from Texas, Bush country. Bush's policy is putting economic growth first, and the environment...well, somewhere down the list. As seen in the U.S. government in not ratifying the Kyoto Protocol.
boneheaddoctor, Please buddy, don't get started again with your conservatives thoughts, and liberal bashing. ![]()

I'm from Massachusetts and agree that if you found a manner in which to prevent emmisions from volcanoes you would really be on to something. Or maybe that's "on" something......

It's been more than ten years since R12 was banned yet the "ozone hole" is still there. How can that be? No mutant penguins on the south pole caused by UV rays. What's up with that?

Once upon a time I was member of the Merdcedes Benz Club of America. During that time, I recieved information on how to convert from 12 to 134. If I still had access to this procedure I would send it to you. My recollection as to the most significant issue with conversion is refrigerant oil compatibility. Depending upon who you believe, there is now an oil which is compatible with both refrigerants. As for me, I had 2 cans of 12 squirrelled away. When that runs out, I will have to convert.

The Kyoto agreement was a plan to screw the USA...did the fact that 95% of the worlds population was exempt from it ring any bells? There was nothing in that agreement that would help anything becasue so much of the world was exempted from it...Namely China and India...two of the worlds most populous nations...and amoung the most polluted.

BUDDY, You are not serious with what you just said right? You think R12 is the only product which helped caused the ozone hole???Compounds found in weed and pest killers also contain ozone destroying chemicals, furthermore, these chemicals are still highly used in developing countries (b/c its cheap to use), even though they have been banned or being gradually phased out in the western countries. -------------------------------------------------- From wikipedia... Ozone depletion The ozone layer can be depleted by free radical catalysts, including nitric oxide (NO), hydroxyl (OH), and atomic chlorine and bromine (see ozone depletion). While there are natural sources for all of these species, the concentrations of Cl and Br have increased markedly in recent years due to the release of large quantities of manmade organohalogen compounds, especially chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). These highly stable compounds find their way to the stratosphere, where Cl and Br atoms are liberated by the action of ultraviolet light on them. Each chlorine atom is capable of breaking down approximately one hundred thousand ozone molecules during the time that it resides in the stratosphere, and bromine is even more efficient. Ozone levels, over the northern hemisphere, have been dropping by ~4% per decade. Over approximately 5% of the Earth's surface, around the north and south poles, much larger (but seasonal) declines have been seen; these are the ozone holes. Regulation On January 23, 1978 Sweden became the first nation to ban CFC-containing aerosol sprays that are thought to damage the ozone layer. The United States and other developed nations followed suit soon after. Chlorofluorocarbons continued to be used in other applications, such as refrigeration and industrial cleaning, until after the discovery of the antarctic ozone hole in 1985. After negotiation of an international treaty (the Montreal Protocol), CFC production was sharply limited beginning in 1987 and phased out completely by 1996. On August 2, 2003, scientists announced that the depletion of the ozone layer may be slowing down due to the international ban on chlorofluorocarbons. Three satellites and three ground stations confirmed that the upper atmosphere ozone depletion rate has slowed down significantly during the past decade. The study was organized by the American Geophysical Union. Some breakdown can be expected to continue due to CFCs used by nations which have not banned them, and due to gases which are already in the stratosphere.

boneheaddoctor,
Well said! What one must realize is that our young people are being educated by the members one of the most liberal organizations in the country, the teachers union. The kids can't help it, they think that just because they learned it in school, it MUST be correct. It's not their fault. Have a great day, |

Why would Larry mislead you to be malicious? That's absurd.
It's illegal to use R12 in a R134A vehicle last I checked, but if it came with R12 it's 100% a-okay to use. Canada could very well be different on that, so I can't comment. Beliving that only certain actions and items such as CFCs lead to ozone/atmosphereic breakdown also is preposterous. Almost everything we do has an impact in some way, shape, or form like it or not.

No intention of offending the youger members but what passes for education these days is a joke....these kids have been force fed ideaologies adn not facts their entire "Education" and their entire believe system is rocked to find out the reality of things....For you younger guys out there...the older you get the more truth you will see in this. THings are NOT like the teachers of this generation want you to believe. I agree that is sad but its true....

I'm one of the younger members here, 19, and I will agree with you. I however did not attend public schools, I attended Catholic schools all my life. Some other kids who I've been around that do attend our publis schools make it blatantly obvious why my parents refused to all us a public education. The public schools here aren't very good at all, in fact they suck. I know some areas have nice ones though so I don't want to make a generalization and not be politically correct.
Thanks David
