Unhappy Clunks when I turn

'85 300D-T; just today I started hearing a clunk type sound coming from left front wheel area when I make turns. Any idea what this could be???

Lots of possibilites there.

Bad shock

Bad radius rod (track rod) body mount, could even be the control arm mount

Bad tie rod

Bad ball joint

Loose caliper (unlikely, but it happens)

Bad upper ball joint and /or bad sway bar mount

Bad lower control arm bushings

You will have to find the bad part -- most likely loose -- with the car stationary.

Also check for the wheel bearings- with the wheels straight ahead, shake the top of each front tire.

I just had my clunk fixed. It was a clunk when I had the wheel turned all the way left and moving slowly. Happened when pulling into a parking space... Almost felt like I was driving over a small pothole in the pavement. Turned out to be the ball joints. I had them fixed for around $300 and the car feels very stable. My mechanic said that MB ball joints are among the easiest car to fix.

I wouldn't drive the car untill you find the worn component of the front end..its a definate saftey hazard.
