Differential for C230K

Was driving home...Heard a loud boom...Car began to shake and heard what sounded like grinding from the rear. I think I may have isolated it to the differential.
I have put only ~2000 miles on this project car that has a rebuilt title...now I need a differential.
It was recommended that I install a used differential and up the ratio to .373.
I need to locate a used, fairly new differential....Help?
When I lifted the rear, I also noted rubbing on the undercarriage due to the Rojah Forged Spun 18” Racing Wheels and Pirelli PZero NeroTires...to the point where it's rubbing against a hose clamp on the gas line...
Steve can you recommend a parts dealer and/or mechanic...I am near Tampa...

Not sure what year your car is, but ebay, silver star recycling, and potomac german auto are good places to find a differential at low cost

3.73? That sounds realy steep for a W202 C230. Weren't the five speeds trannies mated to a 3.27 at the steepest?

My differential (ratio 3.27) unexpectedly went out on my 2002 C230K Coupe at 37,000 miles. I have the option of purchasing a 2004 C230K, 6-speed manual transmission differential (ratio 3.46) from a salvage vehicle that was totaled when hit in right side rear. They claim the differential was not affected. I have also heard that many others parts are designed to failed, when being hit from the rear, so that the differential should not be affected. The differential from the 2004 is from a 1.8L, however, the sub frames are the same. I have been told that if I install the 3.46 in place of the 3.27, the computer speedometer would not be registering the correct speed. Is this true for manual transmission and if so, how do I remedy this?
