124 Blower motor - where's that last screw???

Hi

I was tracking down a lazy blower. I managed to dig right down to the motor. There's two last screws that I can see in front of the motor but its still stuck! Where's that last screw?

The bearings were really tight and I'm surprised that it even ran at all. Anyway while still on the car - contact cleaner at the brushes, lots of penetrating spray at the bearings followed by lots of ATF and finally a smear of grease. It seemed to have loosened up to almost normal now. But how do you get it out??

Thanks
Oreo

I don't know!

But while you got the wiper off, I would highly recommend opening that up and re-grease the mechanism, in particular the plastic half-round rack gear and pinion gear, (they are known to fail due to displaced old grease) if you don't you might regret it later, as I understand they are $1400 for a replacement!

Hi Busy Benz

Thanks for the advice. I did grease up the reciprcating arm mechanism but not the internals of the wiper. As for the blower motor, I found the instructions on line manual. I got stuck at the metal strap. Its was suppose to come off but I didn't know how to get it out.

Wiper internals

Oreo,

Since you have done a ton of work to get as far into your Benz's innards, I second BusyBenz' idea of lubing wiper's internal mechanism. It is a bit more effort (do a search - there are some great posts w/pix that show how it is done). If you do not do this now while you are right there, you will really hate having to do this again later if the dried up lubricant inside the wiper gives up the ghost. Re-lubing made a nice improvement in wiper's operating smoothness when I did this.

That last fastener may just be caulking sticking it in.
