87 280e Idle Problem
87 260E Auto 180.000 Miles. Idle hunts up and down from about 900-1100 in N and 450-750 in drive. had no choice but to adj the linkage so it could be driven, trying to adjust the fuel mixture has no affect. All new Tune up parts and filters. No vac. leaks. Car starts great Hot or Cold, does seem to have higher than normal Fast Idle, 1400 N but no idle hunt till warm, the warmer it gets the worse the Idle drift.
Have also cleaned ICV, no change. What do I check next |

If idle is stable until low idle, either an air leak you haven't found - perhaps idle air bypass plumbing, airflow meter potentiometer, or OVP relay.

Sounds on the high side for airflow meter pot, but easy enough to pull off and check. If you see wear on the contact point, that is your culprit. Make sure you mark the position on the airflow meter body to get back in the right position.

I had problems with high IDLE and it was the overload relay.

Remove the pot and compare it to this:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/attachment.php?attachmentid=7545 If yours has the spots worn through the substrate as in the picture it need replacing. |
