Thumbs up Rebuilt speedos... where?

My bud's 1987 300E speedo worked well until about four days ago when he reset it when moving and killed the odometer and trip.

Anyway, where has everyone had their cluster rebuilt? The speed needle still works fine but that's it.

Thanks!

Six others from BMW, GM, and Ford.

speedo repair

I sent mine to Palo Alto Speedometer, Palo Alto, CA 650-323-0243. Repair cost $110 (six years ago). They also fixed my clock.

There is a place here in Austin that rebuilds them. The owners name is Rick Borth from Speedometer.com 1-800-444-0292. He charged me $75.00 to fix the tripmeter on my 123 a few months back.

Fix it yourself. The gear slips on the shaft. Not a tough job. Do a search for plenty of info.

Odometer repair

Steve Brotherton's brother, Scott - in Florida - also does a nice job repairing, refurbishing these.
(Steve (SteveBFl) is a member here who offers good advise and runs a shop in FL.)

Thumbs up

I don't feel like slaving away fixing my buds car if I don't know for sure 100% this can't be fixed at home.

Also... I had to rescue him yesterday, took me over an hour as the vehicle had to cool and I turned hardcore greasy under the upper 90° heat we have here. He broke it, I don't want to fix it.

Do these places have a unit they can send and I mail them a core back?

I agree with the recommendation for Rick Borth at Overseas Speedometer. I had him do one for me about 2 years ago. Did a great job and fast service. www.speedometer.com
