anybody knows a fast way of checking the functionality of the Neutral safety switch (NSS)?
preferably without going under the car.
The car will not crank from the ignition key but if shorted it will crank (thus starter is fine).
3 possible problems: NSS, ignition key assemply, or factory alarm.
Again when I turn key to 2 position, the battery and check engine lights do not come on as they should.

thanks

Thumbs up Problem Solved

After lots of troubleshooting and agony, the NSS (neutral safety switch) was the whole issue.
After about $50 for the switch (brand new) and an hour of actual work, the car starts right up at Park and Neutral.

The only thing that I have not figured out is why my battery light does not come on on RUN position (not crank position) as it is supposed to do.
It did before the trouble with the NSS started.

The battery is good and I have been driving the car so I do not think is the alternator.

Probably the bulb is shut.

At least I can drive the car

Thanks for your input guys

Battery light not coming on could be the voltage regulator (VR) in the alternator. I had this porblem when I fitted the wrong alternator to my car and so had no voltage regulator! Only ABS and hand-brake lights would self-test on iginition. On installation of correct alternator with VR all dash lights once again lit up.
