190E A/C issue
92 190E 2.6, had perfectly fine A/C but this summer it wasnt blowing as cold so I took it to the dealer to check for the freon level.
They came back and said it was low so charged me 200 and filled it up again. Since then, the A/C would work intermittently, where the compressor would engage and stop itself during hot day time. Took it back and they said the tech. had overcharged the system and it should work fine now. Drove out of the dealership and same problem. Now it's back at the dealer and they called today to tell me that due to the high miles 160K on the car they have to replace the compressor and O-rings etc to "hopefully" cure this problem. They said it would cost $1600 ! I'm mad. the problem was never there before I had them charge up the system. The compressor was always working it's just that the air wasn't 'as cold'. now the compressor just shuts off and all the vents throw is regular air about 85% of the time. Especially when the weather is hot. Any suggestions ? thnx. P.S. Can the A/C components from an 86 190E 2.3 be used to replace the faulty A/C components on the 92 190E2.6 ?

a/c
Hi If they overcharged the system it might have caused some internal problems in the compressor,I would see what they will do for you, first they should have only have done a partial charge and a leak test knowing it was low on freon, next a pressure test with a low and high reading,I think you should press the fact of them over charging the system and seek some free repair.joeym

I'm thinking that any time a shop says 'hopefully' something will work, it means they don't know what's wrong. I find it hard to believe that overcharging would damage the compresor. I also find it difficult to believe that the compressor itself is the source of your problem. I'd find another shop.

just got the car back from the dealership. They're saying that in order for me to having a good working a/c i need to replace the receiver/dryer, the electrical switches, compressor and a potentiometer.
I have the R/O with me that states all of this and the estimate is $2950. what a joke ! ![]() They literally want me to change the whole system becase they can't pinpoint what's causing the a/c not to blow full cold air. I said thankyou and picked up my car because I certainly don't feel like wasting time or money dealing with them. Dealers here in NJ !
