pop goes the C36 AMG
hey guys
yesterday the C36 AMG went pop, oil is coming out of the either the rear of the head gasket or rear mian seal, but its pouring out when the car is running, but the car is running fine?? i think this is a common problem for all w202 at one time , i dont have time to fix myself and am bringing it to the Mercedes dealer to work out @ 90 hr so how about how long to change the head gasket in w202 or the rear main seal, ?? thanks |

the better question is, how long to change the headgasket and main seal on the m104. Do a search, i bet someone has changed the head gasket on the m104 and can tell you how long it takes.

If you don't have time to fix it, you should just get an estimate from the Dealer to fix it, then decide if it is worth it or not. A local indy shop, specializing in Mercedes-Benz, might be a better way to go on this one, if you are wanting to save money on it.
I know that the head gasket itself is expensive because its an HWA number ~200 dollars list, maybe you have the hook up, who knows. You should investigate further to see if its really the headgasket before you just walk into MB and say my headgasket is bad because if your rear main oil is bad, that might be cheaper on the parts, but the labor either way is going to be the expensive part either way.

Head gasket takes 10-12 hrs. Head gasket is $$$$ on AMG cars
Rear main takes 6-7 hrs.

well ya i am going to ask them to find the leak first,
but with the amount poring out and there is alot above the trans, i am thinking it is a weak head gasket , it runs perfect and there is no oil in the water or water in the oil , i thinking 1500-3000 for the fix, my brother has a C280 that got the head gasket at this dealer it was 1200 i thought it would be a good week to take the head off the 16v and install the brand new one i have (waiting for shims from Germany now ) , and the C36 is the car that needs it head off, go figure, now i have to drive a chevy rental car , both MB's are down |
