210 chassis transmision

Several mionths ago I replaced the big electrical contact plug unit and two o rings because of a leaking problem. Yesterday I pulled the cap off the plug to see if it was dry. It wasn't real wet like the last time but it was a bit damp. Not sure if that's residual fluid from my last reapir of new stuff. I thought I cleaned it up well after I put the new part in, but maybe not. Anyway, I cleaned it up again and will look at it in a few months. I know that there have been two or three iterations of the problem o rings. Anyone have the correct current part numbers or what color the latest and greatest o rings are?

Tried to do a search, but must not have picked the right search words.

'99 E300TD 78,500 miles

the latest o-ring that come with the plug are white, the mercedes number for the plug is 203-540-00-53, be sure that you do clean the area inside the plug with brake cleaner and the pins in the plug itself, also use some transmission flud on the orings to facilitate their easy installation, if you do it dry you may damage an o-ring. good luck and please let us know what happens.

Thanks Ray. The part number you gave is for the plug with the o rings correct? Seems pretty cheap - only about seven bucks. Do the o rings come separately since I just replaced the plug not too long ago? Can't remember what color the o rings were though. For seven bucks though, I may as well replace the whole unit again I guess.

i would replace it again, you never know it might be warped or something, have you ever serviced the transmission? even though mercedes says it is filled for life, i would service it at least every 60K, let me know if you need a parts manual for your car. i have them available, send me an email.

Had the transmission serviced at about 50,000 miles.

For as little as it costs to change the whole thing, I guess that makes sense. Regarding wiping the inside clean, I bet I lost a half quart or more of transmission fluid when I removed it the first time. I did replace it, but I'll be a little more prepared this time. There's no way to get it completely clean and dry in there until all the dripping stops. I didn't do that last time. I either need to let it drip until it stops or maybe I need to raise the front end of the car some more.

what we do at the shop when we replace the plug is juat drain the pan, if the fluid is good, save it in a clean container and reuse it.
