92 e300 common problems?

Hey, im looking to buy an MB wagon.. and i came across an e300te 4 matic..

Could i get some basic info on them? such as common problems? ive been hearing head gasket failure is pretty common.. how hard is replacement?

Also, how reliable is the 4 matic drivetrain, and are there any know problems with it?

The car im looking at has 160 thousand miles on it.. what should i check?

Also, the specs would be great.. HP, TQ, etc..

And how well do they handle? I was thinking i would just throw some 17's with low profile tires on it and leave it at that. Can i get some old AMG rims or something for cheap?

Thanks. Sorry for the barrage of Q's.

does it come with service records?

1. Valve stem seals

2. A/C evaporator

3. Leveling system

4. Transmission

5. All rubber

All at the threshold right now.

RUN - do not walk from any first generation 4-Matic MB. Search results from '4-Matic' should scare you enough to not buy. Second generation >1998 is much, much better.

Finding a good example of anything under 5 grand is hard work. Most cars under 5 grand are poorly maintained and that would include most 300TEs. An E320 wagon under 5 grand is almost certain to be junk.

Yes it is hard, but not impossible.

Honestly after about 4 hours of research, learning all the MB models, and engines etc.. i have to say BMW>MB lol.

But i do love how the MB wagons look.. anyways, i guess its back to looking for a 525iT.

Thanks for the help.

i like how both mb and bmw wagons look. but bmw made few 530 and even 540 wagons in 199x model years. mb only came 300 and 320. i would buy one of those 540it but expensive and hard to find. its hard to find good wagon for 5k.
good luck in your search
