300TE 4Matic trans slips and doesnt shift

Ive got a 91 300TE 4Matic.. like most benz of its age, the trans leaks like a siv.. Lately, its been having a problem where the transmission will appear to slip out of gear while the cars accelerating and the rpms just shoot up and its like the trans is in neutral.... i have to pull over and put the car back into park for a minute and that usually temporarily fixes it. Another, actually more common problem that occurs is the trans will just all of the sudden refuse to shift up while the cars accelerating, and when im in a lower gear and this happens, i have to run the car at redline until i can pull over and again let it sit. Now, the trans fluid was very low when i first checked it after having problems, but i re-filled it and am still having the same problems. I searched the forums and found that a lot of trans troubles occur b/c of slack in the kickdown cable. I went through and followed the procedure that was posted on how to fix the problem, but it didnt really seem to help.. the car still occasionally slips and refuses to shift. I know this could be 1 of a billion things.. but right now im just trying to narrow it down as much as possible, and was hoping someone else has had a similar problem and been successfull at fixing it. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
