how easy is it to do a b2 piston on a 300e?
i am curriouse to know how easy is it to do a b2 piston on a 300e and where is it located? i would take it to a shop but the closest shop is an 1 to 2 hours away and it is such a hassle, not to mention expensive to tow it to the shop just to get them to look at it.

That is one of the easier things that can be done on that trans! THE B2 cover is on the passenger side of the trans JUST in front of the rear cover. Large round cover. Just push the cover in a little & acess the snap ring that secures the cover.
Have new seal rings ready to reseal that cover & the B2 piston. WHAT is the real problem with the trans?? |
Yes B2 is relatively easy to remove, however, you may not find something easy to repair once you do. I just removed mine from a '81 300D 722.118 transmission only to find there was a groove worn in the cylinder wall. See the following thread and pictures:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=131124 By the way, I found it necessary to remove the rear transmission mount and lower the transmission about 2" in order to get the B2 servo clear of the body for removal. I also removed the valve body in order to inspect and adjust the band free play (by inserting new, longer pins). |
Check out this thread also, not the best instructions but good for some pics:

Sorry to hear you got so screwed with your trans. But if they took it apart and then slapped it back together, you're not going to get much out of it. Nevertheless, if you can move the back of your trans enough to remove the B2 cover and you drop the pan, you can probably see if the problem is with the B2. There's a thrust pin that fits into the piston assembly on one end and the other end fits into a socket on the B2 brake band. Check the piston and bore for wear, also the rubber seal that is pressed into the case in front of the bushing needs to be good and seal on the smaller diameter of the B2 piston.
