Exclamation how easy is it to do a b2 piston on a 300e?

i am curriouse to know how easy is it to do a b2 piston on a 300e and where is it located? i would take it to a shop but the closest shop is an 1 to 2 hours away and it is such a hassle, not to mention expensive to tow it to the shop just to get them to look at it.

Question

That is one of the easier things that can be done on that trans! THE B2 cover is on the passenger side of the trans JUST in front of the rear cover. Large round cover. Just push the cover in a little & acess the snap ring that secures the cover.

Have new seal rings ready to reseal that cover & the B2 piston.

WHAT is the real problem with the trans??

Yes B2 is relatively easy to remove, however, you may not find something easy to repair once you do. I just removed mine from a '81 300D 722.118 transmission only to find there was a groove worn in the cylinder wall. See the following thread and pictures:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=131124

By the way, I found it necessary to remove the rear transmission mount and lower the transmission about 2" in order to get the B2 servo clear of the body for removal. I also removed the valve body in order to inspect and adjust the band free play (by inserting new, longer pins).

what happened unfortunatly was that i had the transmission fluid and filter changed. BUT a bolt on the pan broke off and had to be taped out. from there it developed a slight leak but would only leak after the car was ran and only for a few minutes. unfortunatly there is only one transmission shop where i live in KY so i took it to them. they told me the transmission was dripping from the top and that they could fix it without really taking the trans apart. i specifically told them that if the tranny had to be torn down to not do it(id would have rather taken it to the dealership 2 hours away). at first i wasn't going to let them do it but they scared me with talk that my trans will go out soon if i didnt get it fixed. four days later they call and say that they have taken the tranny apart and found many internal problems. i go to the shop and they tell me whats wrong i ask to see the trans and converter but they tell me it is in TN. i get to tn and the man tells me i need a cluth pack(not what the man in ky. told me) i ask to see the converter but he tells me it is still in ky. after yelling at them to put my trans back together they try to convince me to buy a rebult one for $3500. i say no put it back. they call next day and say they found one for $1700. i say no. they call again next day to see if i changed my mind. i didnt. 4 days later i get my car back, still leaks from the front and 3 days later i lose all my forward gears, reverse works fine. before all this my tranny was great(i think i was screwed over). i am going to look at it tomorow and see if mabey i only need a b2 piston.

p.s. sorry for the length and in addition to the b2, what else might need to be done?

thanks, i have been reading your thread over the past few days and it inspired me to look at my own b2 piston. although if i have to go farther than a b2 piston then i will just order a rebuilt one from sun valley and have MB of bowlinggreen install it.

Sorry to hear you got so screwed with your trans. But if they took it apart and then slapped it back together, you're not going to get much out of it. Nevertheless, if you can move the back of your trans enough to remove the B2 cover and you drop the pan, you can probably see if the problem is with the B2. There's a thrust pin that fits into the piston assembly on one end and the other end fits into a socket on the B2 brake band. Check the piston and bore for wear, also the rubber seal that is pressed into the case in front of the bushing needs to be good and seal on the smaller diameter of the B2 piston.
