Dash Battery indicator light glows dimly while idling but at increased RPM goes out. Battery seem fully charged. Is this an expensive problem e.g., new alternator or just voltage regulator problem?

better get it checked out. my buddy has a 86 E260 that he just got a new alternator last weekend due to a similar problem. his instrument panel and headlights were dimming and even got to the point where the car stalled. turned out to be the alternator and a rebuilt Bosch one cost him $300 plus labor.

This can be caused by worn brushes (in the alternator) which is a fairly cheap DIY...
