Fogging Windows

Does anyone know why my windows would be fogging...when I say "fogging"...I mean a thin layer of film on my windows that only several applications of windex can remedy. It usually takes a few days for it to happen after cleaning. I think it has something to do with the AC. Although, this used to happen (not nearly as frequent) on my 94 Jetta and VW chalked it up to the interior of the car venting thus causing a light layer of film on the windows.

I'm thinking evaporator or drier going south. Any thought...anyone.

Could be the oil in your refrigerant getting on the windows. If the evap is leaking, then this could be the case.

My 1995 E420 had an evap leak that went from fully charged to empty in 24 hours. I noticed a very distinct odor while this was happening - chemical-like.

I hope it's not the evap - not a fun or cheap repair.

Do you have you Air set on EC that would cause your windows to fog up.

Why does EC setting cause windows to fog up when it is raining outside? Happens to me just about every time. When nice and dry outside, I don't get fogging problem.

That is because with the EC setting, the compressor does not come on to dry the air out - you get moist air blown against the window. Obviously, when it is raining, it is pretty darn moist outside.
