transmission shifts rough

Hi to all, I just got back to Jacksonville FL after driving my newly purchased 87 300 sdl from Hartford CT. I love the car already. It handles the road better than any car I have driven. As with any 18 year old car there are some rough edges and I look forward to working them out. First, the transmission shifts rough through all its gears. Once it is in drive it shows no signs of problems. When I put it in Reverse, after a short (maybe 1 second) delay I can feel the rear end drop. Then it seems to be ok backing.

Now for the AC. No cooling at all. It still has the old R12? I think. I will probably take it to a local foreign repair place I know or maybe a pep boys or the like. Any ideas what to look for or what a reasonalbe cost to change to the new freon system?

The cruise control is inoperative. I brought the owners manuals in with me when I got the car home and will do some browsing in there for a on/off control. I pushed the lever on the left of the steering wheel all four directions with no response, but that is all I knew to do at the time.

I have just been home about an hour so you see my MB is my new toy.

Thanks for looking.

Roger

Take a few days off and go through the archives. All these topics have been discussed.

Shifting - check that there's a vacuum hose attached to the modulator on the driver side of the transmission.

AC - don't allow anyone to convert your AC system to R134a. Don't believe anyone who tells you recharging with R12 is illegal.

Cruise - try resoldering the joints in the cruise control unit.

Like mentioned above read up before shoving your wallet into some mech's hand. My SDL has a tendency to un-adjust itself at the bowden cable and requires a slight tweek a couple times a year. (my imigination???). There are some other things that can keep you out of the AC business other than R-12.
But there is plenty of reading here and no shortage of idea's if you get a little more descriptive of your problems.
